Can I share something that might surprise you? The most successful entrepreneurs I know don't spend hours creating perfect monthly plans. In fact, most of them use a super simple five minute ritual that keeps them aligned without the overwhelm. And honestly, this was a game changer for me when I finally figured it out.
Speaker:Welcome back to Thrive in Five, where I give you a quick burst of motivation and productivity in five minutes or less. I'm Cindy, your host, a self-made entrepreneur, busy mom, and a business coach. I've built and sold several digital businesses ranging from five to six figure successes. So when it comes to managing time and priorities in both life and work, I get it. I've been there and I am here to help you thrive.
Today, I am sharing my proven five minute monthly planning ritual, the exact system that saved my sanity and keeps me focused on what actually matters. This isn't about creating another perfect plan that you'll ignore. This is about building a sustainable habit that works with your real life and not against it. Okay, real talk time. How many of you start each month with the best intentions? Maybe even spend a whole afternoon creating this beautiful detailed plan, and then by week two, you've completely forgotten it exists. Anyone? Just me? I don't think so. Here's what I see constantly with the incredible women that I work with. You're either over planning and then feeling like a failure when life happens or you're flying by the seat of your pants and constantly feeling behind. There's this weird guilt cycle where you avoid planning because you feel bad about not following your last plan. But here's the thing I wish someone had told me years ago. The problem isn't that you're not disciplined enough. The problem is that most monthly planning systems were designed by people who apparently don't have businesses, kids, or real life happening. We need something that actually works for busy entrepreneurs and not lifestyle bloggers with perfect schedules. So here's what I've learned the hard way. Complicated planning systems require way too much mental energy to maintain. As business owners. We're already making about a million decisions every single day. And the last thing we need is a planning process that feels like another full-time job. I used to think I needed these elaborate systems so that it was professional. I'd spend Sunday afternoons creating color coded spreadsheets, detailed project timelines. But you know what happened? By Tuesday, something would shift in my business and the whole plan would feel irrelevant. The breakthrough came when I realized that planning for entrepreneurs isn't about predicting the future. It's about staying connected to what matters most, even when everything else is shifting. We need alignment and not perfection. Alright, here's a system that changed everything for me. Minute, one of the five minute process, you're going to celebrate your wins. We start by looking back at the month and writing down three wins, not just the big victories, but include the small progress too. Maybe you finally organized your files or you said no to that project that would've overwhelmed you. This isn't bragging, this is brain training. You're teaching yourself to notice progress instead of focusing on what didn't get done. Minute two and three. This is the power of three. Here's where we get strategic. You are going to choose just three priorities for this month. Yes. Three, not 33. We're gonna choose one. Revenue generating activity, one business building focus, and one personal priority that supports your overall wellbeing. I know it feels scary to choose so few, but trust me on this constraint creates clarity. Minute four. This is the reality. Check time. Look at your calendar. Honestly. Do you have a crazy travel week? Is it a kid's school break, a major project deadline? We are planning around your actual life and not a fantasy version where everything goes perfectly. This step alone has saved me from so much frustration and self-judgment. Minute five. Next steps only is what we're gonna focus on for each of your three priorities, write down the very next action you need to take. Not the whole project plan, just the immediate next step. This eliminates that overwhelming, where do I even start feeling and gets you moving quickly. Here's how to implement this to make it stick in your real world. First, put it in your calendar as a non-negotiable appointment. I do mine the last Sunday of each month, and I treat it like a client meeting that cannot be moved. I seriously protect this time. Second. Keep it simple and use the same process every single time. No decision fatigue, no reinventing the wheel every month. Just keep it simple and keep the process the same. And here's my favorite tip. Write your three monthly priorities on a sticky note and put it somewhere you see every single day when opportunities come up. And they will. You can quickly ask yourself, does this support one of my three priorities? If not, it's probably a no. And this is such a sanity saver for me. Here's what I want you to remember. You don't need perfect plans to build an amazing business. You need consistent alignment with what actually matters. This five minute ritual isn't about having all the answers. It's about staying connected to your priorities. When life gets crazy, the entrepreneurs who thrive aren't the ones that are the most detailed and have the most detailed plans. They're the ones who can adapt and pivot while staying true to what matters most. And that's exactly what this simply monthly ritual gives you. This kind of sustainable realistic planning is at the heart of my reality check method because success isn't about working harder. It's about working smarter with systems that actually fit your life. And remember you've got this,
