Speaker 2:Welcome back to Thrive in Five, where I give you a quick burst of motivation and productivity in five minutes or less. I'm Cindy, your host, a self-made entrepreneur, busy mom, and a business coach. I've built and sold several digital businesses ranging from five to six figure successes. So when it comes to managing time and priorities in both life and work, I get it. I've been there and I am here to help you thrive.
Today, we're talking about those days when you feel like you're drowning in your to-do list, when everything feels urgent, but nothing feels important. And when you're spinning your wheels but getting nowhere, you know the feeling. It's like being stuck in quicksand while watching everyone else move forward. But here's what's really happening. When you're feeling overwhelmed and off track, your brain has too many mental tabs open and you're trying to hold everything in your head at once. Your nervous system is in fight or flight mode, and this is exactly what I see all the time with the women that I work with. Successful entrepreneurs who are drowning in their own success. Most people mistake this thinking that they need the power to work through it or work harder. But the truth is, when you are overwhelmed, working harder is just like trying to drink from a fire hose. You need to step back and not step up. The overwhelm happens because as entrepreneurs, we are wired to see opportunities everywhere. But without systems to manage that input. Our brains are like computers with too many programs running, everything slows down and eventually crashes your prefrontal cortex, the part of your brain responsible for decision making literally gets hijacked when you're overwhelmed, and that's why everything feels urgent and you can't think straight. It's not a character flaw, it's biology. Here's my proven method that I teach many of my clients. It's just three simple steps that you can do anywhere. The first one. Stop and breathe. I know it sounds simple. Set a timer for two minutes. Close your eyes. Take five deep breaths, focusing only on the exhale. This isn't woowoo. You're literally just resetting your nervous system. I want you to picture hitting the reset button on your and internal computer. Step two, brain dump everything. Grab a piece of paper or open your phone for two minutes. Write down every single thing swirling in your head. Don't organize, don't prioritize. Just dump it all out. Think of this as clearing out all those mental tabs that are slowing down your brain's operating system. Step three, choose your one thing, look at the list and circle just one thing that you can complete in the next 30 minutes. Not the most important thing, not the most urgent thing, the one thing that will give you momentum. This is about building success on success. Here's how to make this work in your real life. First. Recognize that your overwhelm has signals that it gives you early on. For me, it's when I start checking my phone compulsively or moving fast, but accomplishing nothing. Then give yourself permission to stop. I know this feels counterintuitive when everything feels super urgent, but five minutes of reset will save you hours of spinning your wheels. Finally, you need to complete your one thing and then celebrate it. Your brain needs to re recognize that the reset worked. This builds on the natural pathway and it makes this method automatic. Let me give you a real life example. Last week I was working with a client who was paralyzed by her to-do list. She had 23 items. We counted them on her to-do list, and it felt like she was failing at everything. We did this five minute reset together and her brain dump revealed that her most urgent tasks were actually just busy work. Her one thing. It was sending an email to her list. This simple action reminded her what was important. She brain dumped all the things in her head. She looked at her to-do list, and she was able to identify a needle mover activity. Completing this gave her the momentum to tackle everything else systematically. Listen, overwhelm is not a badge of honor. It's a signal that you need to reset. The most successful entrepreneurs I know aren't the ones who never get overwhelmed. They're just the ones who know how to get back on track quickly, remember, you already have everything you need to succeed. Sometimes you just need to clear the static so you can hear your own wisdom. Again, this five minute reset isn't just about productivity, it's about reconnecting with your power as an entrepreneur. This is exactly why I teach this core technique in my five minute reset method because when you know how to quickly shift from overwhelm to clarity, you become unstoppable. And remember, you've got this now. Go take those five minutes and reset your day.
